Update: Siem Reap, Cambodia April 20, 2010 Today the GlobalMedic team headed out to Chres Village today and ran a first aid training program for their staff. There are approximately 50 children ranging in age from 7 to 17 years of age at the village. The team also went to Green Gecko Orphanage to drop off supplies and to start renovation work on their first aid room. They were able to rip up the old flooring, clean the walls and sterilize the the area. Tomorrow the team will return to continue their work with hopes of constructing a classroom. The Fire Team installed fire hoses at the Children's hospital and charged many water extinguishers. The team also trained hospital staff on maintaining the equipment in the event of a fire at the hospital. Tomorrow the Fire Team will offer a day of training to the Airport Fire Department. We are going half way around the world in a few months and needs your help to raise some money for this amazing trip. In April 2010, a 16 member volunteer team will be traveling to Cambodia on a humanitarian mission for 2 weeks. This group of dedicated volunteers consists of nurses, police officers, paramedics, firefighters, a soldier and a doctor. All will be taking time off from work and paying their own way to go and make a difference in Cambodia. While in Cambodia, the team will be doing the following:
- Organizing and running medical clinics in villages and orphanages History of Cambodia: Cambodia is still struggling after the Khmer Rouge regime killed over 1.5million people in the late 1970's. There are still landmines and unexploded ordinances littering the country which causes many injuries and deaths every year.
