GlobalMedic's Rapid Response Team trained Doctors Worldwide Turkey volunteers on the use of the field hospital. The hospital has been set up in Gevas in Edremit Province where the local hospital suffered structural damage during the quake and is unable to accept patients as a result. GlobalMedic's field hospital was installed and will be used as an ER, running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The inflatable field hospital and generator arrive at the site where the hospital will be erected.

On November 9, 2011, a 5.7 magnitude earthquake hit south of the city of Van in eastern Turkey. This is the second earthquake to hit the region in three weeks. Seven people have reportedly been killed and more than 100 are assumed to be trapped in the rubble. The 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck northeast of Van City on October 23rd killed 600 people and left hundreds of thousands homeless. The town of Ercis was the most impacted by the earlier earthquake and 100,000 residents are currently living in make-shift camps even as temperatures begin dropping with the onset of winter.

Many buildings sustained damage in the first quake and have collapsed in the wake of the most recent quake. The latest earthquake has cut power to Van City and the local hospital has been severely damaged. Emergency medical infrastructure support is greatly needed to meet the needs of victims of the earthquake and support the ongoing daily medical needs of the community.

GlobalMedic is deploying two members of the Rapid Response Team today to Turkey. We will be shipping an inflatable field hospital into Van City to help replace the main hospital that was damaged. GlobalMedic will be working alongside our local partner Doctors Worldwide Turkey to coordinate the response.
